Shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, Smith said that officers in the area of the intersection of 14th Street and Saratoga Avenue NE heard gunshots ring out, and upon arrival at the scene they found three men down suffering from injuries.

Two were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third was rushed to an area hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

While police were investigating the shooting, two more people were also admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds and it was determined that they were at the scene of the initial incident.

One was listed in critical condition, one had minor injuries, Smith said.

“We are seeing these senseless arguments with firearms introduced, as opposed to folks being able to resolve them,” the acting chief stated.

“I feel frustrated too … For these residents living in the community, they deserve not to be in a community where guns are constantly being in their space and there are crew on crew or people bringing guns to the fight.”

Smith said that three people were spotted in a grey SUV after the shooting, but no other description about the suspects has been released by the department.

There has now been 212 homicides in DC to date, according to MPD, a 37 percent increase from last year, while there have been 3,990 reported violent crimes as of Thursday, Sept. 28, up from 2,897 at the same time last year.
